la république est à une heure de vérité

i'm so sad about france. there are a million things you could say. and you could say a lot about liberté, egalité et fraternité, and how france needs to make some changes and all of those things. and if you don't like france, then you could say a lot of mean things. but it's just sad. any way you slice it.

i feel sorry for the country, as if it were a friend going through hard times. it also makes me sad that when everyone was talking about freedom fries and hating france back when they were against going to war with iraq, and i hung out my tricolore as i do every year on bastille day, because i am a big geek, my neighbor asked me to take it down. well, he is stupid, but a lot of people hate france. and a lot of people make stupid jokes. and this whole thing is terrible.

but i will tell you one thing. when you read the things that de villepin says, they are so gorgeous that you could only wish in your wildest dreams that the people running our country could say something so articulate and fantastic. this administration has never spoken in the subjunctive, i'm pretty sure. and de villepin has good hair. and once i saw jacques chirac float right by me as he laid a wreath at the arc de triomphe. i could have touched him. he was 10 yards away. and boy was his suit beautiful. the french do a lot of things right. just don't forget about that, ok?
