today while we were on our walk today, my dog ate something off of the ground. it looked like a long strip of alaskan salmon that was sort of dried up. the trouble is that it was sitting smack in the center of a patch of mud in a grassy section. and i mean trouble because it looked like it was placed there. it looked like somebody just laid the thing down, gently. and then of course, my dog ate it. she is always eating all kinds of things off of the ground, and she always has lived through it, even though a lot of those things she eats are pretty terrible. but i once had a dog that was poisoned, so now of course, all i can think is that my beloved granule has now died since i left the house after our walk. i'm sure she'll be fine and i'm sure this is just me worrying the way i always do about things like this, but what was that thing? it could also have been a piece of bacon or hammy stuff that fell out of the sandwich of one of those new jersey guys over there, but it wasn't in front of their apartment. although, i could definitely see one of them traveling around while he ate an alaskan salmon or bacon sandwich, chatting on his phone and pacing that stretch of the sidewalk. i suppose when i get home this evening, and he's on his way out to meet somebody for drinks, i'll just casually ask him if he was roaming while eating a bacon salmon sandwich, and did he find it was less populated than he had thought it was going to be, back in his kitchen, when he made it. i think some of those guys eat a lot of sandwiches. there are a few guys that live over there with a little stairs-balcony thing and they always keep their door open. for the first year that i lived there, every time i went into my backyard, i could see them making sandwiches. and i don't mean that as some kind of euphemism. they were there, at 1 in the afternoon, at 10 at night--it didn't matter. they were always in there making some kind of sandwich. for some reason, these days, i don't see them in their kitchen much but their door is still always open and i hear them screeching for some east coast teams whenever the stakes are high. maybe they dropped the thing. i may never know.
